General School Information

We welcome you and your child to our school, which we believe to be the best choice of school in the Eastern Suburbs of Wellington. We hope that the following information will be useful to you.

School Information from A to Z

Absence Line

If your child is going to be absent or late for school please contact the school using our school app or leave a message on our absence line: 04 388 6657.

The school will contact you if your child has not arrived at school and the absence is unexplained.

After School Care and Holiday Programme

Kids Community Hub runs an after-school programme and holiday programme from our school hall. For more information visit www.kidscommunityhub.co.nz

Assemblies

School assemblies are held in the school hall regularly. These dates will be advertised in the school newsletter ahead of time and parents are most welcome to attend.

Children Leaving the School Grounds

Children leaving the school grounds during school hours need to be signed out and back in at the school office by a parent or caregiver.

Dental Clinic

Children attend the Dental Hub based at Miramar Central School. Appointments can be made by calling Bee Healthy on 0800 825 583.

Homework

All syndicates have a regular age-appropriate homework programme. At Miramar North School we believe that homework should not be too excessive. At this age, homework is about taking time to practice the different skills and knowledge that enables children to access the curriculum more easily in class. We recognise the importance of getting outside to play after a busy day at school. Key areas of homework are reading, completing tasks on Mathseeds/Mathletics and Spelling practice.

Home and School Team

The Home and School Team are very active around the school and fundraise throughout the year. They meet once a month. New members are most welcome.

Aims

Essentially, H+S is a group of parents who have volunteered to achieve two things:

●  Raise money – which goes directly to benefit our fantastic MNS kids; and

●  Organise events that bring our school and the wider community together.

Kindo

Kindo is our online shop. It is designed to manage school payments and complete forms with ease. There are multiple payment options and you have the ease of not dealing with cash. Visit www.kindo.co.nz to create an account.

Library Books

Children have the opportunity to borrow books from the school library every week. Encourage your child to return books as soon as the books have been read.

Meeting the Teacher

Formal parent interviews to discuss children’s progress are held during the year. However, if problems arise you are encouraged to talk to your child’s teacher at any time other than class time. Please email your classroom teacher to arrange an appropriate time to meet.

Naming Property

Please make sure that children’s property is clearly named. The lost property rack is located outside Room 8.

Parent Help

Parents and grandparents are invited to help at school. This could be assisting with class programmes, helping in the library, providing transport for school trips, reading with children, and assisting with sports. Let your child’s teacher know if you are able to assist at school.
