Our learning

Te ao Māori at MNS

At Miramar North School, we work hard to integrate te ao Māori into daily life. Te reo and tikanga are strengthened through professional development, working with whānau and practice!

Our Māori values are important to us and were constructed through consultation and meetings with whānau. We try to instill these within the whole school community, aligning them with our teaching practice.

Miramar North School provides a range of opportunities for our ākonga to live and experience te ao Māori. These include, but are not limited to:

  • Kapa haka
  • Matariki celebration
  • Māori Language Week
  • K-Day
  • Māori myths and legends
  • Hāngi
  • Whare Tapa Whā
  • Mihi
  • Words and phrases integrated throughout the day
  • Parihaka
  • Kapa haka and cultural leaders
  • Art

We have noticed that our students have so much pride in their knowledge of the Māori culture and love to participate in all activities we provide.
